A little of my world

 Hello dear friends,

Maybe it is time for me to make a post about my home decor.  I don't claim to be a decorator. I love what I have and most of it is a collection of items gathered over the last 25 years.

Comfort is number one for us, function is just as important. So as I take you through my home today, you may see bits of everything.  Mostly, I have plants.  I love plants, especially small ones that I can grow along with.

I love these carts!  Thehubs hates them but when I vacuum they just roll out of the way, they store anything and can even be used outside.

I also love my vegetable/fruit wire bins. I have had them forever. They are great storage.

We built our home 23 years ago. Board by board, each one touched by thehubs. We had left our 3600+sq ft home with an inground pool and walkout basement, 5 bedrooms, in the city. The kids had all moved out and the big house was too much for thehubs and I. 

This is our back yard.

February is not a goo dmonth for pictures.

Today, the wind is blowing, it is 35 degrees.

Everything is brown and muddy.

This Foggy Easter Morning Sunrise

This morning the mud hens arrived.

Out my window I see the color green.

Some bunnies are here for Easter.

A few more bunnies are spotted here and there.

A morning visitor who breaks bird feeders

and loves to eat corn chops.

The month of October

is almost gone.

We have had so much to watch these past few weeks.

This is our backyard.

Our lake is now cleaned out with a new berm built.

Here is where I sit, looking out my dining room window. They will be hydro-seeding it sometime next week and then thehubs will be planting trees and bushes.

The excavation crew is also in our front yard building a new pond and using the black dirt to line our new berm on the old lake. We will miss watching them work, but then our work begins.

It's Halloweanie time here in the Ozarks and we are ready to pretend, play and just have fun. Thehubs has his masks that he wears when he chases all of us in our golf carts. In the past I have been a witch, gypsie, cowgirl, and even attempted to be a Michael Jackson one year. I think this year I will be a post-menopausal woman with bad knees... yep, that will be me.

Have fun, act a bit silly and eat some candy!

Saying Goodbye to Raintree

WE have been in Kansas City for the past few days helping Kdaughter get ready to relocate and come back home.  They left their "home" about 5 years ago for career changes that involved three new construction houses, 6 moves and lots of packing and unpacking.  Their 5 year plan is now close to completion.

Southwest Missouri is not the greatest place to build a career, relocating is almost a must in order to get the experience necessary to move ahead.  I am just so happy it only took five years and now they will be coming back home, only an hour away from me. I have enjoyed their moves, as inconvenient as they were, as meeting new neighbors, making life long friends was the best part of the whole experience.  I will miss the adventures of learning new places, getting lost in traffic, and eating new foods.  

But having them come back home

is a prayer answered.

The last move is now only a week away.  We will leave again tomorrow, to head back for Kansas City to help with all the details, a garage sale, packing, loading and moving down the road.  I want to share some photos of their neighborhood taken during my 6am walks.

Raintree Neighborhood

I counted 6 lakes, 5 smaller ones and one large one.

The neighborhood is filled with walkways, flower beds, clubhouses, and boats.

I will miss the paved sidewalks,

a real treat for a country girl.

The wedding...

I hope everyone had a great Independence Day!

Ours was busy with a family reunion, fireworks and a wedding.  We have triplets in our family, and the oldest, by one minute, said her vows and married the love of her life. She was beautiful, all dressed in white. I have watched them grow up and become beautiful women, learning to ride bikes, graduating high school, going to college,and now being a beautiful bride. 

It was so nice having family here from out of state. 

My cousins whom I grew up with, all together, again.

This is just part of us, we can't get all of us in the same photo, if only our granny could see us now. She would be so proud!

My cousin and next door neighbor, has a large pavilion perfect for large gatherings, and lots of food.  We started Friday morning, decorating for the big 4th of July bash.

Everyone chipped in, hanging red, white and blue lights and flags all around. One thing our family does best is work together.

We had about 70 people at the celebration.

Then it was off to Kansas City to help Kdaughter get ready for her move back home. This is the sixth move in 5 years for them. It has been hard, but well worth the career changes. They had a 5 year plan and now they will get to come back home. 

This makes me happy.

Creating place settings...

I loved hearing President Ronald Reagan give a speech.  His speeches gave me hope, enthusiasm and boosted my determination to try.  His quote is similar to how my Granny lived. Her door was always open, there was always food to eat and her table was always set. Though she didn't have much, her home was comfy and full of love. Problems were solved at her table.

Brenda over at www.cozylittlehouse.com always writes about her shopping experiences at walmart.com and how they charge no shipping fees.  I had been wanting a white set of dishes so  I ordered the Better Homes and Gardens Dishes from walmart.com and this morning the UPS man delivered them to my front door.  So simple, I feel this could become my new way of buying.

I got so excited that I had to play with some different ways to set my table.  I cruised through some blogs looking for beautiful place settings, with folded cloth napkins, beautiful centerpieces, and gave it a try.

I even drug my ironing board out of the closet,

dusted off the cobwebs and ironed all of my linens.

I had such a good time,

playing with my linens and dishes.

I tried several centerpieces, but this is my favorite. I bought the blue ball jars at Target the other day, I just couldn't resist them and I knew I would find a way to display them someday.

I was searching for a blog that could help me with folding napkins, using two different patterned napkins, and just overall napkin design.  If anyone has any links, or suggestions for blogs, sites for napkins, please share with me.

As life goes...
Emmy Lou, our chocolate labrador is healing slowly after her attack by a pit bull running loose down our lane. The local police have laws protecting us from loose running animals however, our local town is so small that rules just do not get enforced.

I am now on my third week after spine surgery and feeling better each day. The doctors orders to not lift anything, drive, and to take it easy is harder now that I am feeling better.  Another week and a half and maybe The doctor will allow me to begin physical therapy and start building my strength back.

I want to thank each one of you

Redecorating Reveal 2014!

 Welcome to my Spring 2014 Reveal!

After a couple of months of painting, scrubbing,

purging and a little crafting...

we are close to having it done. 

Close enough for me to share some photos.

It started with new floors in the kitchen and dining room.

But before we could start that project we had to paint the ceilings and walls.

This is a total color change for me. 

In the past, I have had my favorite pansie dish sets from

Corningware displayed for almost twenty years.

So my colors always referred back to the

purple and yellow of those colorful pansies that I dearly loved. 

But this time,

I packed them up and it was time for a change.

I wanted to stay in the neutral colors

 and only change out my

accessories for adding color.

We love our oak here in The Ozarks.  I have thought many times I want to paint my cabinets a light cream with a dark gold wax. But we DO really like our oak whether it is in style or not, so we will keep it the way it is. 

I tried adding some blues here and there

and just kept having fun finding those

treasures as I ventured out and up into my attic.

I was worried over my choice of the dark stain

but now that is is down,

I am pretty happy with it.

I like the dark contrast against

the yellow of the oak.

The small green cabinets may get painted this fall, 
they hold all of my computer

and camera cables and I use them often.

I bought that cream colored iron table with glass top 
just for that space near the patio doors

 It keeps all of the dog/cat 
treats close by when we go in and out. 

My favorite space of all is my wide pantry doors.  

I was able to get all of my cleaning and
storage behind those doors therefor

 no one, will ever see my dirty laundry basket again!

The master bathroom floors also were redone in the dark stain.

I have to thank Lloyd the tile guy for
choosing this brick cut natural stone.

I wasn't even looking for it, when he laid it out in the store

and we fell in love with it. 2 more weeks and we can seal it which will give it a little shinier finish.

The living room is also close to being done. 

The ceiling needs a second coat of white to reach that
clean, crisp white I am wanting.
And the 2 side chairs need new cushions,
I have found some but still want to
look at some fabric samples and have
someone make them locally if possible.

And as life goes...

I am almost 5 days post surgical for having 2 discs replaced and fused in my neck. Pain and nausea are my biggest complaints right now along with not being able to sleep for more than an hour at a time.

I have been able to sit up at the table the past two days so I plan to hop' around and do some blog reading. I am asking for prayers for a fast and speedy recovery please.

Welcome to our

redecorating journey!

It has been "So" EXCITING!

Sometimes...

and Sometimes Not...

I have been doing some

Craft Projects

Yes. That's Me, the uncrafty one.

I have been trekking along the

craft aisles at HL, Michaels, and JoAnns.

And our attic.

I am especially proud that this project

only cost about $1.50.

I made some mistakes,

started over a few times, 

but I eventually got there.

I will be sharing my projects

in the weeks to come.

Outside: Spring has finally arrived!

There is a slight breeze and cloudy skies today

with just a slight chill in the air.

A good day for a painting project or two.

These pansies were planted last spring and have

wintered well. 

That antique 2-wheeler

was my grandfathers, a quiet man, who drove for

Safeway for 40 years, delivering

groceries to the stores in Los Angeles, CA.

Miss you Grandpa!

I Hope you will stay around

for the reveal.

We got a confirmation date and

the floors will be isntalled on

May 6th.

We have to empty the rooms,

pull the baseboards and

repaint them.
