Slow, in just 5 minutes

I have reached an age that slow just comes naturally, my body aches, my eyes strain and my mind searches my memory.

I get up early each morning wanting to start my day nice and slow, to have time to think not about what I have to do that day, but to train my thoughts to feel each and every moment of this new 24 hours.

I enjoy a slow start.

It awakens me.

As I read my daily devotions, I must reach for my glasses, then as I turn the page my fingers are slow to feel the smooth touch of the paper.

I am the car in front of you that is not in any hurry, wanting to see the scenery as I drive into town. I drive slow intentionally and often pull over to allow those who are not to pass me.

Slow, as we get older,
seems like a bad word.

When I get out of the car I often say “Go ahead, I will catch up” because my knees are slow.

Sometimes I don't remember each item on the grocery list, or even to take it with me as I cruise the aisles at the grocery store nice and slow. Sometimes I just enjoy walking slow and looking around to see what is new.

Slow is now a blessing since I retired. It is a gift earned from years of being so busy the world became blurred with responsibility and obligations.

Now is my time to be slow.

  1. When my kids were tiny, I would have loved to be able to slow down. Now as I'm older and the slowing isn't really a choice, I forget to appreciate the time to slow down. Thanks for the reminder to appreciate the stage I'm in! I found you from FMF

  2. I remember the time when I passed everyone. Now everyone passes me. But that's O.K. Slow people see more, and notice more. Jesus had so much to do in his short life, yet you never read where he rushed.

    1. Hello Laura, Yes, I am at a happy place being slow, I failed to write that I often pull over to take in the scenery or I often take the back roads so that I can check out cows, birds, goats, trees, bushes, clouds, fences, shadows, creeks, rivers...

  6. i too have slowed down, but i don't really like it. i can't do what i use to do in a day - i like being busy and more productive. we had a fun/busy weekend and today, i have done next to nothing. at almost 4 pm i am thinking of all the things i should have done and would have enjoyed. but i'm tired and achey and probably worn out from the weekend.

    i LOVE being retired!!!
